Day 3 of 30 Day vLog Challenge – all job titles should read PROBLEM SOLVER

In this video I explain how I believe that all job titles should read “problem solver” and that the bigger the problem you solve the more value you deliver and the more you get paid.

vLog 1 of 30 – My experience using a standing desk

The standing desk fad is based on a very considerable amount of research. Statistics show that, we spend more than six or more hours sitting down; shared between driving, watching TV and working at a desk. What’s also great is that standing desks provide you with the opportunity to stand and move about, and also leaves you a chance to get some of that activity that we all desire- standing desk or not.

Studies show that the accumulative effect of sitting all day for years is associated with a variety of health issues, like obesity, diabetes and cancer. Reading the research, I now know that sitting on my ass all day is the worst thing that I’m doing to my body, especially when I discovered that every minute I’m sitting, I burn a single miserable calorie. I got my first standing desk six months ago, and I’ve never looked back.

To stand or to sit? That is the question, are you working on a standing desk? Click To Tweet

So, to help you get on the standing desk bandwagon, I’ve put together the top four health reasons to get a standing desk.

1. Obesity

A lack of constant movement is the main cause of obesity. Research advocates that the key to decreasing the risk of obesity is constant, modest levels of activity throughout the day.

2. Diabetes

The harmful health impacts of sitting and the benefits of standing seem to go further than just obesity. Some studies have found that sitting for lengthy periods of time is connected with reduced efficiency in regulating levels of glucose in our bloodstream.

3. Cardiovascular Disease

Research shows that sitting is bad for our cardiovascular health, and these studies go all the way to the fifties. British scientists compared the ratio of heart diseases in London bus drivers that sit all day, and bus conductors that stand all day- they found that the drivers experienced more heart attacks than the conductors.

4. Cancer

Several studies have stated that longer periods of sitting is linked to a higher risk of different types of cancer. Colon and breast cancer seem to be more predisposed to this problem.

Although there are numerous situations apart from the office in which we sit for long periods, spending most of your time at a standing desk is one of the best solutions. If you’ve decided to get a standing desk, then I recommend that you share your time between sitting and standing, you need to find what works for you. It’s also very vital that you take the time to ease into this new lifestyle to avoid extreme body pains or total disinterest. (something that I did not do, but I did not experience any major pain) They say that standing for a few hours daily at first while your body adjusts to the strain will help you ease into it. But once you have become accustomed to it, you’ll never go back!

Till next time, always be sharpening your saw.
